Dexter Dog Diary, Week Two, Tuesday

Tuesday (salı, 16 mart, 2010)

Thank goodness I managed to get rid of that damaged piece of dew-claw overnight. The Axes are as impressed as they ought to be, bless them. They are awake early, but strangely, don’t seem keen to get up; serves them right for all that walking. I feel quite frisky!

She goes off to the Acapulco again. He goes berserk! He is washing the floor, brushing the outside steps and looking under the car (it seems they grounded somewhere last night). Having completed his chores, it is rehearsal time – so I make myself scarce! By the time I notice that he has stopped, he has finished his lunch and we are off walking again. This time we are headed up the old track towards the villas on the Bahçeli road. He is really stepping it out and we are nearly at the villas before he eventually talks to me. We are obviously on a mission! Soon we are picking our way through the gorse and other shrubs, following the old terraces in an anti-clockwise direction, gradually rising. After quite a while we reach a barren plateau just the other side of the peak of the “mountain” from the apartment, to the south. It soon becomes clear that he is looking for a way down! I can see a clear one, leading to the village. Then I spot the cows… different type from “ours”. They are down in the olive groves hundreds of feet below us. Although there is a an obvious track, curving round the foot of the mountain, to the east past the cows, I presume that my wolf-like qualities are to blame for this change of plan.

Cutting a long story short, we gradually edge our way downwards and around the mountain from terrace to terrace. It is a slow process with many false trails. Finally, brain-box glimpses the obvious: the fastest way down will be to follow the same path that the water does. This, again, is easier said than done… but quite fun! Eventually we reach the track and the two fords are the only excitement left until… we get home and find that she got back an hour earlier, but we have the front-door key. Oh dear…

These guys are gluttons for punishment! As soon as they have unpacked the shopping and had a cup of tea, we are off, clockwise this time, down the track in search of an elusive orchid. Late tea, again, but worth waiting for because they are having pasta and there are leftovers. Yummy! Meanwhile… he is washing the bag of the Dirt Devil. I don’t mind, but I hope it will not lose that comforting, concentrated canine aroma that it always emits. All her activity is catching up with her and she is asleep on the sofa with the TV blaring. Amazing… unless you are a dog, then it’s easy-peasy – goodnight!
