Dexter Dog Diary, Week One, Monday

Monday (pazartesi, pa-zaR-te-zi, 8 mart 2010)

After yesterday’s early night, the humans are mobile at a reasonable time of day. So, we are out for a thankfully short walk while the grass is still wet from the overnight dew. Y drives off alone, which is the cue for X to get out his guitar. I will admit that I was curious as to the contents of that odd-shaped soft brown case. It is not like anything I have ever seen before. He attaches something to it with a wire that plugs into a little grey thing with coloured lights. After a lot of twiddling of knobs (on the guitar) and repetitive twanging of strings, the light all turn “green” and, just like the traffic signals, he can get started. I keep a low profile, not wishing to encourage him, but it is not quite the odious experience I expected. I am not one for loud noise – thunder can really get on my wick – but he is picking at the strings quite gently and, although there are twelve of them, the noise is almost bearable – unlike some of the stuff they play on the TV!

I am not so lucky with the bed-vacuuming obsession: I didn’t really notice it yesterday, probably because it is so much part of my routine inconvenience. The fact that a different human could be so obsessed with collecting black and white dog-hair never occurred to me. Fortunately, I provide an inexhaustible supply. It has been a lovely afternoon: I am basking on the roof patio; then, at the onset of the evening chill, he carries my favourite bed down to the balcony and attacks it with the dreaded “Dirt Devil”. Two days running can’t be a coincidence; my noise-free dream is over.

It is Annie’s turn for a surprise this afternoon; that cute little kitty who likes to look-in when she feels like it. The mad X man makes it quite clear that she will not be allowed access, much to the relief of Sonny. Soft-hearted as well as mad, X feeds her, as instructed – but out on the landing. That is enough excitement for one day; a practice kip while they watch TV will be just the job.
