Dexter Dog Diary, Week Two, Thursday
Thursday (perşembe, 17 mart, 2010)
What a storm last night! The rain! I thought it was hail, it was so heavy. Then Thor, up there, dropped his fridge on the roof! I will say this for our humans, they are very reassuring. They had no compunction in allowing Sonny and me into the bedroom. After all the fuss is over, Sonny blots his copy-book good and proper. One minute he is up on the bed (I ask you!) being petted something rotten, the next minute… he is scuttling out of the door closely followed by a carpet slipper. In between, he makes one small mistake: when a cat gives a love-bite to a human, it can be misunderstood – as well as painful! After the initial reaction, though, there are no hard feelings.
Nobody has a lot of energy after the broken night, but X is still on his litter-blitz when we go walking. After a relaxing morning and a spot of lunch, Y goes shopping with Helen. He and I go exploring. Well, exploring for him; I, of course know my way around these parts. We start on the site-road that continues west-south-westward as an ancient track. We veer off westward across the meadow. After the storm, it is still breezy and cool. We seem to be heading towards some cows again – nearby, there are three herds of different sizes to north, south and west of the apartment. He notices and we change course, eventually crossing the Bahçeli road just below the old football pitch. We weave our way between the olive trees towards the ravine and pick up the old stone track that teeters on the edge. Before long, we arrive at the eastern highway. Normally, we have my collar and lead with us, but today we haven’t. So, I demonstrate my independence and decision-making qualities by stepping smartly into the carriageway. I can only presume that the roar of the waves, pounding the rocks in the bay beyond, somehow, in the human brain, became confused with the roar of road-traffic. His next action leaves me stunned: he grabs me; me – master of the universe – or, at least, my part of it. Huh..!
Soon we are retracing our steps. It has been a chilly day and in the evening we need a bit of heat in the apartment. It is now that he meets his “techno” match: The Arçelik gas heater. Connecting the gas bottle? No problem! Getting any gas to flow? No chance! We resort to the little portable (well, on wheels) electric radiator. In time, we have heat.
