Listen and Learn

Thinking about two brothers, my grandsons, each one with his individual talents and personality, led me to consider the very different ways by which each of us learns… In using the word “listen”, I mean, “pay attention”. The modern word may be “focus”.

However…we can all remember a situation when the truth “dawns” upon us. This implies that the “information” we have received, the basis for that realisation, has been deposited into our memory without our conscious awareness. Also, we all have different sensitivities. In extremes we may be without one of our major “input” facilities. We may be totally deaf or blind. That does not mean we are stupid or insensitive. A very clever person with dyslexia may be labelled a dunce at school.

How we feel about what we learn and what we choose to do with that knowledge will vary. Also, there is the subject of physiological suitability. Because we are slightly built does not necessarily mean that we prefer not to participate in a contact sport. It may not be a sensible choice, and we may “learn” to regret it. This type of learning may be absorbed by application of pain!

Talk about life and we talk about living

Talk about what we will earn

Talk about love and we talk about giving

Talk about how we can learn

I don’t know why you can’t see – can’t we turn off the T.V.?

Some preach, some teach, that’s quite a mission

We all have to listen and learn

Chorus theme as last two lines:

La-da-dee-da, La-da-da-dee-da-da

Just have to listen and learn

Its tough when your young, crammed with tuition

Just when its better to play

Better by far to learn what your wishing

Enjoying yourself on the way

Whatever you want you can be. We only want to be free!

You say life stinks – I don’t know what to think

All have to listen and learn.

Chorus

There’s a crunch and a crash and a pain in his shoulder

He won’t try to do that again!

Remembers the way that they showed him in training

He didn’t listen, just heard

It isn’t the same thing at all – setting yourself for a fall

Next time he’ll try something quite different

We all have to listen and learn

Chorus

She trying hard but nothing will seem to fit

As if the material grows

Starts it again this time follows the pattern

Not just the tip of her nose!

We’ve all done the same thing before. We look but don’t read at all!

Notice our feelings, register, understand

All have to listen and learn.

Repeat last two lines and Finish
