Hash House Harriers
Chorus
Hash House Harriers break down barriers… get the people talking
Strolling with like-minded folk… don’t hang around if you can’t take a joke!
Hash House Harriers break down barriers
Don’t hang around if you can’t take a joke
Verse 1
Kuala Lumpur, back in nineteen thirty, when most of the map was coloured pink
Idle staff who were not on duty, often took recourse to drink
Gisbert said “Let’s ride out on the ponies and, if it sounds okay to you
Call in at the Hash House, maybe, have a sandwich and a little glass or two!”
Something special started to unfurl, a parody upon this crazy world
Rules and ritual for officer and churl; “Hash” is not a race but they quickly spread the word
Hash House Harriers…
Verse 2
Kuzey Kibris, nineteen ninety two and Tony is the new Hash Master
Maureen is the Registrar and Brad, Religious Advisor
First came the “Uni” lecturers from Lefke, then us folk to join the throng
“Hares” lay the trail, “Hounds” follow on, almost anybody could do something wrong!
“Punishment” is a sentence called the “Down-Down”, everyone delights to see it
When you cannot drain the cup, for… on your own head be it!
Hash House Harriers…
Verse 3
Liz and Haldun host us in December. Pick as many grapefruit as you will
Daughter Rasime’s turn comes around… at her orange grove in April
Life brings changes - even to “The Hash”… runners that were riders now are walkers
Officers new, Wendy and Molly… help to organise us
I felt this island cast a magic spell, while hashing round the Beshparmack
It turned me into a boomerang – could that be the reason I keep coming back?
Hash House Harriers…
