Change
2008
Les Richards is a remarkable man who entered my life just when I needed some friendly guidance. As with every wise man, this fact was never mentioned and, to all intents, it seemed that I was helping him with some vocal backing tracks.
He had written a "musical" entitled "Time and Tide" in which there was a song, "The Very First Morning", completely compatible with the title song. With typical kindness, Les allowed me to combine the two into a new song with the underlying theme of change.
Intro
Fate is calling me to follow
Down a road that I must travel, come what may
To a time far beyond this age of sorrow
And a place where I must go so far away
Yes, a place where I must go so far away
Verse 1
Run from your doorway, out into the sun
Today is the very first morning
Yesterday is history the future has begun
Today is the very first morning
Chorus
Open up your eyes! It’s the very first morning!
The very first day of the rest of your life!
Verse 2
Ask yourself just what you’re living for
Today is the very first morning
Bid them farewell, no time for any more
Today is the very first morning
Chorus
Open up your eyes! It’s the very first morning!
The very first day of the rest of your life!
Verse 3
Change the sleepy-headed ways you used to know
Today is the very first morning
Big wheel are turning and they’re telling you to go
Today is the very first morning
Chorus
Open up your eyes! It’s the very first morning!
The very first day of the rest of your life!
Coda
For, time and tide will wait for no one
And the leaf, from the tree, must surely fall
As the stream can but flow down to the ocean
So, time and the tide will take us all
Yes, time and the tide will take us all
