Friendly Strangers
This little song came to me at a camp site near Devizes, Wiltshire, whilst washing the dishes and exchanging life stories with other campers at the communal sinks.
We would probably never meet again but, whatever our interests, we had one thing in common: we were there to enjoy the freedom of the open-air life.
When problems haunt and I can’t sleep
I know where I must go
By mountain high and river deep
I’ll find them there I know
Where time is yours and yours alone
Nobody calls you on the phone
Soul, mind and body just as one
Among such friendly strangers
Beneath the stars where I can sleep
Secure from all life’s dangers
And, oh, what company I keep
Among such friendly strangers
Beneath the stars where I can sleep
Secure from all life’s dangers
And, oh, what company I keep
Among such friendly strangers
Among such friendly strangers
