Yin to Yang

This song was one of three that Roger Dyer dropped on my desk c.1970 shortly after I mentioned that is was putting a tune to a lyric as part of my role as Alan A'dale in the Rugby Club pantomine, Robin Hood.
At the time there were just four verses that proved prophetic to my life thirty years later - a hopeless picture of love lost.
To reflect new-found happiness I added three verses because by the time this recording was made (at The Mill Studio at Winfarthing as part of The Secret Concert) I had met Avril and we were living just down the road in Diss.

Verse 1

Just yesterday there was sun

Now there is no one

Is that why

The colours melt away?

Yes, the colours melt away

Verse 2

And for tomorrow we'd planned

To go hand in hand

Across our life

But now I'll have to stay

As the colours melt away

Verse 3

Because we lost the magic

She turned her face away

Took all of the music

Our love had learned to play

Now the colours melt away

Verse 4

When yesterday was so bright

Everything was right

Now there is just

The long black lonely night

And the colours melt away

Verse 5

I went in search of the sun

Said; “My day’s not done!

If I can learn

The colours may not turn

Into shadows black and grey.”

Verse 6

And just then love came along

Brought light to my song

Showed me just how

To look for “right” not “wrong”

And let those shadows fade away

Verse 7

There’s such a long way to go

But we all do know

Our path is clear

If we hold love so dear

Yes, the colour’s here to stay!

The colour’s here to stay.
