Hati Cafe
As you stroll through the streets in the village of Esentepe, literally “windy hill”, in North Cyprus you may see a series of sun-bleached signs saying “Hati Café”. Follow the arrow and that is where you will arrive.
In the ten years or so that I have known Hati, she has not changed at all. She is still the same, petite and charming – and the most pleasant hostess imaginable.
The activities referenced in this song are those that appeared in the December 2019 issue of “What’s On in North Cyprus”.
Oh, and if you do go past Hati’s, down a very steep hill, you may find the home of my friends Chris and Vera who made me so welcome at the guitar club.
Verse 1
Entering Esentepe, they don’t know how we feel
Just like a dream of coming home, but, today its real
In recent times there’s been a change, its now a red-light zone
Don’t be alarmed that’s just an arch of lights across the road.. to
Hati’s super café, where active people go
Be there Wednesday morning and you can learn to sew
Verse 2
With Hati’s hospitality on Monday after lunch
We met there for our guitar club – a right eclectic bunch
“Music is the food of love” as William Shakespeare said
But if you crave affection, better turn off your deaf aid! At...
Hati’s crazy café – we’ve all been here before
The clients are demented, we’re coming back for more
Verse 3
“The quality of mercy...” said the Bard, “… is never strained”
We do our best but quantity is easier obtained
Our song-book now is three feet thick – a committed two-man lift
“A” for Arlo, “B” for Bob, just ZZ Top is left! At...
Hati’s friendly café, where you can study art
Thursday at eleven - or you will miss the start
Verse 4
Our hostess is an enchantress, there can’t be any doubt
Nobody knows her secret ‘cos she’s never let it out
Forever young and happy, welcoming to all
Perhaps some magic artist paints her years upon the wall. At...
Hati’s happy café, the top spot anywhere
But don’t you go past Hati’s – its all downhill from there!
Yes, Hati’s lovely café, the finest anywhere
No, don’t you go past Hati’s – its all downhill from there!
