About My Music
2012
Many years ago I was co-leader of a music-makers group in Diss U3A and also the Diss Acoustic Music Club. So, when it was proposed to start an arts group for the Waveney valley, I was at the inaugural meeting.
At an AGM of Waveney Arts we were invited to prepare a two-minute introduction to our own work. I had little difficulty summarising my musical career within two minutes.
About My Music
Back in the 1930’s and in the 40’s too
Woodrow Wilson Guthrie was known to sing the news
Fine writer – Poor singer
Maybe why he’d often choose to use
The East-Texas Talking Blues
Unsurprising, given his name, Woody was very political
“I’m telling you people so you’ll know
I’m a Union Man from head to toe”
That kind of talk got him into a whole load of trouble
With Senator McCarthy
“Reds-under-the-beds” and all that
Woody inspired a whole generation, including me and
A Minnesota boy called Robert Allen Zimmerman
Better-known as Nobel Prize-winner, Bob Dylan
Woody made it from journalist to Public Enemy
Bob made it from poet to friend of the world…
… which he now tours, playing rock and roll
However…
In the Norfolk town of Diss
There lives a man who sings like this
Reflects upon the past into the future
Just an ordinary bloke
Writes contemporary folk
With sad and funny stories – how he sees life
He can tell you how it all began – for him
The day he heard that old Rock Island Line
Now he’s come to sing for you
With a new slant on the news
He’s even got a website – tunewithaview
It needs updating…
He’s even got a website – tunewithaview.
