Around and About Diss

My talks are normally forty-five minutes long but can be expanded or contracted by altering the number of of stories and songs included. Each talk is tailored to suit the audience using different songs and I note which so that the audience get a different selection at a second booking.

Diss is a market town situated just north of the river Waveney and, consequently, in the county of Norkolk with Suffolk a stones-throw across the narrow river. There are fifty outlying villages and although, like other retailers, the market is half the size it was ten years ago, folk still congregate on a Friday.

When Diss was granted its charter to hold a market, it attracted people from within a radius of about six miles, close enough to walk in, trade, and walk home within a day. Today, in our motor car, we cover much larger distances so the material for this talk comes from all over East Angliia and involves tales from history and the changes we have seen in recent years.
